Howdy Minions, Goons, and future servants of the Nimzy Nova Empire. Being it’s the beginning of the week there isn’t much news to talk about. There is some compounding news though. If you were worried that you weren’t going to be able to get your hands on a Switch 2 like I was. Then good news, you might not have to worry. Nintendo has been manufacturing Switch 2 systems in secret since before the announcement earlier this year. This along with the specs and leaked motherboard info confirm that the Switch 2 has been in the making a lot longer than just this past year.
What does this mean? Well, it means a few things. Yes the system is using some outdated hardware. Some are comparing it to a PS4 or PS4 Pro, considering this is a handheld console that sounds like a good thing to me. I still play my PS4 and it’s still a very capable system. Due to the unavailability of the PS5 for most of its life due to scalpers many people are very familiar and comfortable with their PS4. Having that portable is still an upgrade. This also means that Nintendo has had plenty of time to make sure this launch goes as well as possible. Despite that it seems that the opinions around the Switch 2 are pretty negative. But as a reminder, social media and YouTube see better viewership when the subject is negative. The haters want to be validated and the lovers want to be mad.
It also doesn’t help that with little in the way of news there isn’t much positivity going around. I think as soon as the system is in people’s hands we’ll see a little more balance in the media representation of the Switch 2. I’ve said in a previous blog post and video that the rampant negativity is mostly manifesting in the form of your usual console wars malarky. There is also a lot of negative speculation. To be honest, the system could be the best and cheapest thing to hit the market and people would still hate it. Simply because it’s Nintendo. Once in people’s hands though we’ll be seeing content posted from people who actually own the system and have first hand experience with it. Rather than just anyone with an internet connection looking to make a few bucks on an easy target.
Honestly, the blind love for Nintendo is less pathetic than the blind hatred for it. It feels like what many YouTubers are doing is dirty, exploiting human psychology by intentionally making them angry in order to get easy views and money. I wonder if they find making this sort of content fulfilling and what they’ll do when everyone moves on. Bit of a tangent there, sorry. Even though this negativity is spreading it looks like sales might be unaffected at the moment. Some retailers are struggling to keep stock. So keep in mind this negativity is just a vocal minority and will likely be swept aside upon release. Where we’ll start to see more moderate and positive voice mixed in. This is because currently the positive folks don’t have much to talk about, the system isn’t out yet.
This preorder issue isn’t going to be an issue for long. Nintendo has said that not only have they been making systems in secret they have plenty of stock for physical stores too. Even there new store opening in San Francisco will still have stock on launch date. Don’t be afraid to cold call asking if places have stock if you weren’t able to get a preorder. In even better news, if all stock runs out Nintendo has partnered with Samsung to produce more chips for the Switch 2. This should expedite future batches. Samsung’s assistance will certainly help to ensure future Switch 2 system stock, but you won’t see the results of this team up for months. This was a recent agreement and even if they started today, you likely won’t see a batch from them for a couple months. Of course this is great news for the people waiting until the holiday season.
Nintendo says this partnership should enable them to easily hit the project 20 million unit sales by March 2026. Should this not be enough Samsung is prepared to assist even further with console manufacturing. That Nintendo is working nicely with another company is a good sign for Nintendo’s future. Typically they’re very antisocial. Simply, if you were worried about whether you’d be able to get a system due to resellers, then you can stop worrying and wait as long as you need for those reviews to come out. Speaking of reviews check out my video about the lack of review systems being sent out (and why it doesn’t matter). Good news aside, with how tariffs are up and down these days, I don’t know how much longer you’ll want to wait. Today could be the lowest they’ll be in a while.
