Howdy Goons, quick news today and I don’t plan to fluff it up to pad out a word count. Redditors are saying their preorders for the Switch 2 are getting cancelled at multiple retailers like Walmart, Target, and Gamestop. This isn’t a surprise to me, I was expecting this to happen. It happened before with the PS5. What did surprise me is mine wasn’t cancelled. A majority chunk of these cancellations are obviously cancelling orders made through Affirm. Again, all the more surprising that mine is fine.
Interestingly, some people have gotten theirs early but they’ll be waiting too. Turns out Switch 2 systems that are available early have a lock preventing major features until a day one patch is released. I’m guessing this is to prevent leaks. But this also explains why journalists weren’t getting an early system. Nintendo stated that a day one patch was integral to them doing well. Well surprise, it’s because they wouldn’t work without the patch. What does this mean for buyers without a net connection, I wonder?

Lastly, don’t sweat cancellations too much. A screenshot has been circulating showing a Target with 40 consoles in a locker. Oddly this locker is on the store floor and locked. So customers can plainly see this Target has a ton of Switch systems. If Target is having to cancel preorders it’s not because they don’t have enough systems. Something else must be going on, like someone is restricting sales potentially. To ensure that there are actual systems on shelves on Day One.
That’s it, super short and sweet. Thanks for reading, and consider checking out my YouTube. I have exclusives both here and there so you should definitely check it out when you get the chance.
