Do want to know how to unlock everything in Mario Kart World? Well I’ve got the answers for you and it’s going to be a very short video because Nintendo made it pretty easy on us. There is also a video version below if you’re in a listening mood more than reading!
How To Unlock All Characters
All of the characters and their costume variants are unlocked through one of three ways. The first is by first time completion of any Grand Prix cup. This is regardless of what character you’re playing, what vehicle you use, what CC you’re on, and you also don’t have to place first. So you unlock all of the main characters through just completing a Grand Prix cup the first time regardless of equipment.
The second way to unlock more characters is by getting turned into creatures by the Kamek’s Magic item. This one is completely out of your control. The only tip I have is to try and be in first and race a lot, it can be done in any mode with items. Then it’s up to random chance whether you get turned into the right creature. The creature or character you’re turned into is the one you unlock. So if you’re turned into Coin Coffer you unlock Coin Coffer.
The third and final way to unlock new characters is by playing one of the 24 Main Characters and eating the fast food items on the map. Not all characters get a skin for every food item, and only Main Characters like Mario, Luigi, and Birdo can get costumes through food items. Just keep an eye out for the to go bags. You can get these in any mode, but it’s random what food item you get. Some locations have exclusive foods, so head to Cheep Cheep Falls area to get a higher chance of Takoyaki, Taiyaki, and Sushi. You can do this in free mode so if you wanted you could probably sit in a Yoshi’s parking lot and wait for them to spawn.
The easiest way to know if a character can get one of these skins is to look along the bottom of the character select screen, if the character has their own head icon then they can get food skins. If it shows the Goomba icon then they’re a minor character and don’t get skins. How many skins each main has depends on each character. Mario has the most, 8 or so, and Birdo gets only 2 which should be a crime. Some of these are really cool even if they’re still the same character.
How To Unlock All Vehicles
Vehicles are very easy to get, every one hundred coins earned gets you a random vehicle. You should have them all by 3000 coins. Don’t go out of your way to earns these, you’ll unlock them naturally as you play any of the modes. I’ve raced on every Grand Prix map twice and I have half of the vehicles.
How To Unlock All Maps
Outside of the first 7 Grand Prix cups there is an additional cup with four more race maps. This includes Rainbow Road. To unlock the final cup you only need to play on the 7 other cups. You don’t need to take first, only top 3 in necessary. This should be easy but if you’re having trouble remember that in Mario Kart the items you get depend on what place you are in the race when you get the item. If you’re in First you’ll most get feathers, coins, super horn, and stuff like that. But when you’re behind you get things like Mushrooms to boost, and items like red and blue shells to take out other racers. You only need to be top 3 on that final lap, so consider sitting around 3rd-4th place for the majority of the race then boosting through at the last second. Also practice Drifting, as you enter a turn hit the bumper and wait for your tires to spark, you’ll get a boost once you let go of the bumper.
That’s it, unlocking everything can all be done in just Grand Prix if you like. But you only really need to place top 3 on each Grand Prix once to get the majority of the stuff. Chances are you’ve already unlocked most of the stuff from just playing normally. I’m pretty sure you can unlock these in online and multiplayer too. After you have all 24 main characters and unlocked the Special Cup then you can play anything you want to unlock more. Even free roam. There are stickers to unlock and these work like achievements but these are all unlocked by just playing too. So try out a bit of everything, but don’t force yourself to play modes you don’t like.
